Snow falls down on this quiet city
Street some nights
When the weather gets real cold
And cars drive slow past my house
Everyone is asleep tonight
Just the same as how it’s been
And I know I’ll soon get my turn
But the hour is so late I guess it’ll
Be another sleepless night
Seems to be every time
I know it’d be different
If I were in Maine
Out of the buses and trains and
Umbrellas turning in the wind
There I could sit by a fire
Feel the life in my bones
Return to their place
I’ll look up at the sky
I’ll count all the stars
No passing cars in sight
And when I can sleep I will dream
But for now I am here
At least it’s still cold
As cold as it will be
This coat is my house
This feeling’s my key
I’ll unlock the door
